Iranian court issues ruling on Ashura day detainees

TEHRAN – An Iranian court has sentenced six rioters arrested in connection with the Asuhra riots to serve prison terms and pay fine.

The six people were charged with insulting senior officials of the Islamic Republic and disturbing public order.
The court will issue a ruling on the cases of two more rioters after further investigation.
On December 27, a day which fell on Ashura, protesters took to the streets in central Tehran and chanted slogans against top government officials. They clashed with the police and damaged public property.
Judiciary officials said more than 500 people were arrested by police in the riots in Tehran on that day
